Ganador del Premio Cervantes, amigo de toda la vida de Gabriel Garcia Márquez, el primer lector de su manuscrito y el hombre que influyó en el destino de "Cien años de soledad", Álvaro Mutis y su obra maestra "Empresas y tribulaciones de Maqroll el Gaviero", hace su ingreso por primera vez al mundo chino a finales de septiembre de 2022 publicado por la editorial CITIC.

“Empresas y tribulaciones de Maqroll el Gaviero”, se compone de siete historias separadas pero interconectadas. Mutis con una narración inusualmente moderna: permite que el tiempo y la vida de la novela fluyan de un lado a otro como olas y, finalmente, las siete partes se entrelazan y se convierten en una epopeya personal espectacular.

Como aventurero y protagonista en el mundo de las novelas de Mutis, Maqroll es un héroe que atraviesa la tierra y el mar. Es un vigía que no se limita por el tiempo ni el espacio, un individuo que vive en un mundo épico. No puede soportar la quietud y una vida pacífica; no puede resistir la tentación del ajetreo y el bullicio más cercano. Ya sea transportando madera, administrando un bar o un burdel, contrabandeando armas, extrayendo oro... ha realizado innumerables trabajos al margen de la ley, y todo esto con el simple propósito de no aburrirse y evitar la monotonía de una vida tranquila.

El vigía perpetuamente errante es el alter ego de Mutis. Garcia Márquez dijo “todos somos Maqroll”, y Maqroll es también el prototipo de cada uno de nuestros contemporáneos. “Todos somos personas exiliadas por nuestra niñez, por nuestra propia vida”. Su destino es el de todo aquel que lucha con la realidad. Está siempre a la deriva, vagando, "no tiene adónde ir, ni quiere ir a ningún lado".

Mutis, hijo de diplomático, viajó entre Europa y Colombia en un barco mitad de carga mitad de pasajeros. En 1948, a la edad de 25 años, comenzó a escribir poesía e incursionó en el mundo de la literatura. El personaje icónico "Maqroll (el vigía)" apareció por primera vez en una colección de poemas. Desde 1986, comenzó a crear novelas con Maqroll como núcleo, completando siete novelas en seis años y así creó una de las imágenes literarias más importantes del mundo hispanohablante del siglo XX. Hasta su muerte en 2013, Mutis ganó los premios literarios más importantes del mundo hispanohablante, incluido el Premio Cervantes.

“Empresas y tribulaciones de Maqroll el Gaviero” contiene tanto el espíritu épico de Homero, como el espíritu del Quijote. La cubierta de la versión china estuvo a cargo del diseñador Wang Zhihong y traducida por la joven traductora español Xuan Le.

塞万提斯奖得主、马尔克斯一生的挚友、其手稿的第一读者、影响《百年孤独》命运的人阿尔瓦罗·穆蒂斯的代表作《马克洛尔的奇遇与厄运》，首次进入中文世界，由中信出版于9月底出版。

《马克洛尔的奇遇与厄运》由七个独立又彼此关联的故事组成。在这部由七个部分组成的“小说群”里，穆蒂斯赋予了叙事以非同寻常的现代方式——让小说里的时间与人生像海浪一样奔涌往复，最后，七部曲叠错激荡成为壮观的个人史诗。

身为穆蒂斯系列小说世界中的冒险家与主角，马克洛尔是纵横于陆地和海洋的英雄，他是一位瞭望员，他身上没有时间和空间的界限，是一个“生存在史诗世界的个体”。他总是忍不住远离繁忙的港口，远离安稳的生活。运输木料、开酒吧、开妓院、走私军火、挖矿淘金……他做过无数在法律边缘游走的荒唐工作，而这一切都只是为了拨开索然无味的缕缕时光，不让他滑向那即将战胜他的虚无。

穆蒂斯是外交官之子，从小乘坐一半装货一半装人的小船往返于欧洲和哥伦比。1948年，也就是25岁时，穆蒂斯开始诗歌创作，从此进入文学的世界。他在诗集中首次出现了“瞭望员马克洛尔”这一标志性的人物。1986年起，他开始创作以马克洛尔为核心的小说，六年完成了七部，横空出世，塑造出20世纪西语世界最重要的文学形象之一。直到2013年去世，穆蒂斯囊括了包含塞万提斯奖在内的西语世界最重要的文学奖项。

《马克洛尔的奇遇与厄运》兼具《荷马史诗》的气魄和《堂·吉诃德》的精神，本次中文版装帧由设计师王志弘操刀设计，青年西语翻译家轩乐翻译。

Winner of the Miguel de Cervantes Award, Gabriel Garcia Márquez’s lifelong friend, first reader of the “One Hundred Years of Solitude” manuscript, and a man who influenced the course of the Nobel-winning novel, Álvaro Mutis and his anthology “The adventures and Misadventures of Maqroll” entered for the first time into the Chinese world at the end of September 2022 published by CITIC editorial.

“Adventures and Misadventures of Maqroll” is made up of seven separate but interrelated stories. Mutis masters the narrative in an unusual modern manner: he allows the time and life of the novels to flow as waves, from one way to another, just to ultimately intertwine the seven stories turning them into a spectacular personal adventure.

As an adventurer and main character in Mutis’ world, Maqroll is a hero that goes through land and sea. He stands as a lookout, limitless with no space or time restraining him as he is an individual who lives in an epic world. He cannot bear stillness and a peaceful life; he cannot resist the temptation of the nearest hustle and bustle. Be it carrying wood, managing a pub or brothel, smuggling weaponry, or mining gold… he has performed plenty of outside-of-the-law jobs, and all for the sake of not getting bored and avoiding the nothingness of a quiet life.

The perpetual roaming lookout is Mutis’ alter ego. Garcia Marquéz once said “we all are Maqroll” and Maqroll is also the prototype of every single one of our contemporaries. “We are all banished by our childhood and our own life”. Destiny belongs to those who fight with reality. It is always adrift, “it has nowhere to go, neither does it want to go anywhere”.

Mutis was the son of a diplomat, who travelled between Europe and Colombia in half-loaded and half-occupied ship. In 1948, at the age of 25, Mutis started writing poetry and entered into the world of literature. The iconic character “Maqroll (the lookout)” showed up for the first time in a series of poems. Since 1986, he started writing novels including Maqroll as the main character, and achieved finishing seven of them in six years. He created for himself one of the most important literary reputations in the Spanish-speaking world in the twentieth century. Up until his death in 2013, Mutis won the most important literary prizes in the Spanish-speaking world, the Miguel de Cervantes Prize included.

The Adventures and Misadventures of Maqroll resembles the spirit of Homer’s Epic as well as that of Don Quixote of La Mancha. The Chinese version of this book’s binding was designed by designer Wang Zhihong, and translated by the young translator Xuan Le.
